Thabo Nkosi traveled from Johannesburg to Beijing, transforming from a new TESL Starter into a certified TESL Professional within two years.
Thabo was working as a teaching assistant in Johannesburg when he discovered TESL China's certification program. With limited resources but strong determination, he applied for the TESL Starter scholarship and was accepted.
Arriving in Beijing in 2023, Thabo faced both language barriers and cultural differences. TESL China's cross-cultural training program helped him adapt quickly. His African perspective brought unique value to the classroom—students were fascinated by his stories and teaching style.
Thabo completed his TESL Certified level in 6 months and TESL Professional level in 18 months. He now teaches at a premium language school in Beijing and serves as a cultural ambassador, helping other African teachers navigate the journey to China.
